March Newsletter

At Union Ridge Elementary, we believe every day matters for every student. Research shows that students with regular attendance have greater academic success. To ensure every one of our students has the opportunity to be successful in school and in life, we strongly encourage you to promote regular attendance.

If the morning routine is a struggle, following are some tips from AttendanceWorks.org

• Set a regular bed time and morning routine.
• Lay out clothes and pack backpacks the night before.
• Don’t let your child stay home unless she is truly sick. Keep in mind
complaints of a stomach ache or headache can be a sign of anxiety
and not a reason to stay home.
• If your child seems anxious about going to school, talk to teachers,
school counselors, or other parents for advice on how to make her feel
comfortable and excited about learning.
• Develop a back-up plan if something comes up. Call on a family
member, a neighbor, or another parent to take student(s) to school.
• Avoid medical appointments and extended trips when school is in session.

Kindergarten registration for the 2018-19 school year starts on April 9th at both South Ridge Elementary and Union Elementary School. Both elementary schools
provide kindergarten classes that are all-day, every day. If your student will be five years old before September 1, 2018, he/she is eligible to enter kindergarten in the fall. Parents will need to provide proof of their child’s birthdate (such as a copy of their child’s birth certificate) and a completed and signed Washington state Certificate of Immunization Status form.

Parents can find out which school their child will attend by calling the district’s Boundary Office at 360-619- 1309. Plan to enroll your child early. Doing so helps the district plan for the number of teachers and classrooms required to serve our
youngest students.

Students from across Union Ridge Elementary have been honing their talents in
preparation for this year’s talent show. Join us March 29th from 6pm-8pm and watch our students showcase their skills. This year’s talent show is bound to
be the best one yet!
