Ridgefield School District Board of Directors

We volunteer to serve on the school board because we care about providing quality education in our community.  We appreciate your comments or interests and welcome your participation.

The Ridgefield School District Board of Directors consists of five school board members, elected by ballot by the registered voters of the district.

The school board acts as the policy-making body of the district and is responsible and accountable for planning, policy, advocacy, and evaluation. Guided by state and federal laws, the board provides direction for the district by approving policies, making financial decisions, determining building needs, and approving the budget.

The superintendent is hired by the Board of Directors and is directly responsible to the board.


Our meetings are open to the public and all our discussion will be held during an open meeting with the exception of “executive session.” Comments from the public are invited relating to agenda items and non-agenda items.  A “Citizen’s Request to Speak” form must be filled out and submitted to the board president before speaking during the public comment section. Public comments are limited to 3 minutes per person up to 30 minutes total.

The board is precluded from discussing or acting on items raised by public comment, which are not already on the agenda. Speakers may offer objective criticism of district operations and programs, but the board will not hear any complaints concerning specific district personnel. The chair/president will direct the visitor to the appropriate means for board consideration and disposition of legitimate complaints involving individuals.

All regular and special board meetings are open to the public, and all actions authorized or required by law are taken at these meetings. The board may, however, meet in closed (executive) session for the purposes of:

  • Acquisition of real property 
  • Offering to sell real property 
  • Publicly bid contracts
  • Complaints or charges against an employee 
  • Qualification of an applicant or performance of an employee 
  • Qualifications of a candidate for appointment to elective office 
  • Discussions with legal counsel

All formal actions are taken in public sessions. Minutes of all regular and special board meetings are matters of public record.

The board president and the superintendent are responsible for setting the agenda. The board president conducts the meeting and is the spokesperson for the board.  Board meetings are meetings in which the board conducts its business in public. While board meetings are not meetings of the public, we welcome you to join us!
