Ridgefield School District is pleased to announce that Mabel Joel has been selected as the new Assistant Principal at South Ridge Elementary School. Joel currently serves as the Dean of Students at Edgerton Elementary School in Puyallup, WA and brings more than a decade of experience in education to her new role. She will step into the position previously held by Tawny Malone, who was recently named principal of South Ridge.
"Mabel's warmth, leadership, and student-centered approach stood out amongst an incredibly strong group of applicants," said Superintendent Dr. Jenny Rodriquez. We’re thrilled to welcome her to Ridgefield and excited for the continued growth and momentum at South Ridge Elementary."
Incoming Principal Tawny Malone echoed those sentiments: "The future is bright at South Ridge, and I’m so excited to have Mabel as a leadership partner in this next chapter. Her experience, energy, and passion for inclusive education make her a great fit for our school community."
Joel began her career in education as a daycare director and paraprofessional before becoming a Special Education teacher focused on reading and dyslexia in Katy, Texas. She later worked as a Learning Support teacher in the Vancouver Public Schools district. Joel holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Management and a Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction from Western Governors University. She earned her Principal Certification through Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas.
