Trunk or Treat at Union Ridge

Car trunks loaded with candy. Creative costumes galore. A skeleton wearing a Union Ridge Tater Tot t-shirt. Happy families everywhere you looked. All of this made for one incredible Trunk or Treat event last week at Union Ridge Elementary School! The festive event marked the return of in-person events for the Union Ridge PTO.

“It was a very exciting night filled with candy, music, and smiling faces,” said Union Ridge PTO President Heidi Rashoff. “It has been awhile since we have been able to host an event where the kids could see friends in person and bring their families out for a fun night.”

In previous years, the PTO hosted a Harvest Festival Carnival for Union Ridge students and families, but COVID restrictions made it impossible to hold the large indoor event. Instead, the PTO got creative and hosted its very first Trunk or Treat.

Teachers, staff, and families decorated their car trunks with kid-friendly themes, including Jurassic Park, Harry Potter, and Gravity Falls. Children trick-or-treated through the large parking lot, filling their bags with candy and other goodies while music from DJ Craig Brown and High Fidelity Entertainment kept everyone dancing. Students also got an up-close look at a fire truck from the Clark-Cowlitz Fire Rescue and a cruiser from the Ridgefield Police Department, as well as vehicles from Ridgefield Mini Storage and Carpets, Inc.

“It warmed my heart to do an in-person event and see all the smiling faces and hear all the laughs,” Rashoff said.

Now that they have finished this first successful Trunk or Treat, the Union Ridge PTO is looking forward to hosting more new events for Union Ridge Elementary School students and families.
