South Ridge Elementary School has been recognized by the Washington School Recognition Program for outstanding growth in student achievement, earning recognition in the category of “Growth for: Students in one or more racial or ethnic groups” for the 2024-25 school year.
The Washington School Recognition Program is a joint effort between the Washington State Board of Education, the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI), and the Educational Opportunity Gap Oversight and Accountability Committee (EOGOAC). Each year, the program honors schools that demonstrate exceptional progress in key areas of student success. This year, only 16% of schools statewide received recognition.
Schools recognized for growth have demonstrated some of the largest gains in the state across multiple measures, including academic performance, attendance, and other indicators of student success, while also helping narrow performance gaps between student groups.
South Ridge Elementary Principal Tawny Malone said the recognition reflects the dedication and collaboration of students, staff, and families.
“This recognition is a celebration of the incredible work happening every day at South Ridge Elementary,” said Malone. “Our students continue to rise to high expectations, and our staff is deeply committed to creating a supportive learning environment where every child can grow and succeed. We are proud of the progress our students have made and grateful for the partnership of our families and community.”
Superintendent Dr. Jenny Rodriquez praised the South Ridge team for their commitment to student achievement and continuous improvement.
“We are incredibly proud of South Ridge Elementary and the work that has led to this recognition,” said Dr. Rodriquez. “This honor reflects the dedication of our educators, the perseverance of our students, and the strong support of families and our community. It is especially meaningful to be recognized for growth and progress as we continue our commitment to ensuring success for every learner.”
The public announcement of recognized schools was made by the Washington State Board of Education and OSPI on May 4. South Ridge Elementary will also receive a recognition banner as part of the statewide program.
