Each year, Identity Clark County recognizes one staff member and one volunteer from each local education system as a “Learn Here Hero” for their outstanding contributions to students, schools, and the community. Ridgefield School District is proud to celebrate Detective Tyler King for his exceptional volunteer service and dedication to Ridgefield students and families.
Since joining the Ridgefield Police Department in June 2017, Detective King has become an invaluable partner to Ridgefield School District. His work extends far beyond traditional law enforcement responsibilities, reflecting a deep commitment to collaboration, relationship-building, and ensuring schools remain safe and supportive environments where every student can thrive.
Detective King plays a vital role in supporting district safety efforts. He serves as a key connection between the Ridgefield Police Department and district safety staff, helping coordinate trainings for school personnel and collaborating on emergency preparedness initiatives. Most recently, he helped lead the planning and coordination of a countywide full-scale reunification exercise involving multiple law enforcement agencies, ESD 112, CRESA, and representatives from school districts across Clark County. His leadership, professionalism, and calm presence during high-level planning efforts have helped strengthen partnerships and preparedness throughout the region.
Beyond his work in school safety, Detective King is deeply invested in building positive relationships with students. Through his volunteer work with the Police Activities League (PAL) of Southwest Washington, he mentors and supports young people while helping foster trust and positive connections between youth and law enforcement. Whether visiting elementary classrooms, participating in school activities, or “adopting” a classroom through PAL, Detective King consistently demonstrates care, compassion, and a genuine desire to make a difference in the lives of students.
What truly sets Detective King apart is his relationship-centered approach to public service. In a rapidly growing community, he has remained focused on building trust with students, families, staff, and victims. His work strengthens not only school safety, but also the sense of connection and unity within the Ridgefield community.
