ICE CREAM SOCIAL/BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT

This year we will be consolidating our Ice Cream Social and Back to School Nights into one event. In previous years we have hosted our Ice Cream Social the afternoon before the first day of school and Back to School Night on an evening several weeks into the school year. This year’s Ice Cream Social will include sessions put on by the teachers about the curricular content and expectations of their classes as well as opportunities to get locker assignments, schedules, purchase VRMS attire, and pay fees. We will not have an additional Back to School Night in September as we have in the past.

7th GRADE ASSURANCE DAY

All 7th graders and any 8th grade students new to Ridgefield School District will have Assurance Day on August 29. Returning 8th graders will stay home on this date and begin school on August 30. We use this day to orient our new students to the school’s facility, expectations, academic program, and procedures as well as help them make connections with their classmates and teachers.

BACK TO SCHOOL BASH

View Ridge will be hosting an all-district “Back to School Bash” on Saturday, August 26 to support various back to school preparations students may need. This event will include the following:

  • Free sports physicals
  • Free immunizations
  • Free backpacks and school supplies
  • Free haircuts
  • Free clothing

ATHLETICS REGISTRATION

Athletics registration for middle school are done through the district’s online registration system, which can be found on the school and district website. Fall sports at View Ridge are Football, Cross Country, Girls Volleyball, and Girls Soccer (new this year!). For athletes needing in person access to the necessary technology we are offering a registration night on August 14 from 4:30-6:30pm at Ridgefield High School. A few key details to be aware of regarding athletics registration and participation:

  • Sports physical examinations (by a physician) are required for participation. If you have not already, we advise making an appointment at your earliest convenience so this will be completed in time. Note the above mention of the free opportunity for a physical at the Back to School Bash.
  • Fees: Students are charged a $50 fee per sport, and must purchase an ASB Card ($30, one time only) to play. Students on free or reduced lunch plans have waived or reduced rates for the fee. These fees are payable through Skyward Family Access.
  • Students who have emergency care plans, including students with asthma, must have an updated care plan prior to practicing in their fall sport.

FEE PAYMENTS ONLINE

All school-associated fees may be paid online through the Skyward system. Visit the school website under the “For Parents” tab to find guidance on how to do this. Remember, families of students on free or reduced lunch plans have reduced fees for most payments.

RIDGEFIELD BOOSTERS

All Ridgefield School District grades 7-12 parents are invited to join the Ridgefield Booster Club. You can join when you attend our Ice Cream Social on August 28, or visit their website for more information at www.ridgfieldboosters.com.

DRESS CODE

I am including the text of our revised dress code for you to have as you shop with your children over the summer. We hope it will lend more clarity to clothing purchases and morning attire decisions this coming school year.

Students at View Ridge are expected to dress appropriately for school. Inappropriate dress or appearance, which causes a disruption of the educational process, interferes with work, or is dangerous to student health or safety, is not permitted. Ultimately, the staff and students have the right to feel comfortable at school and if they don’t, may ask students to change. Dress codes are in effect during dress-up days unless explicitly communicated otherwise.

Dress Code Guidelines:

1. Clothes shall be sufficient to conceal undergarments at all times. See-through, sheer, clothing with large holes, halter tops, low cut tops, racer backs, bare midriffs, and muscle T’s are prohibited.

2. Tank tops must have two straps and be two fingers wide and conceal all undergarments.

3. All shorts, skirts, and dresses must extend past the longest fingertip when the student’s arms and hands are extended by his/her leg with shoulders down.

4. Leggings, yoga pants, workout pants, etc. are prohibited to be worn without additional coverage. Leggings, yoga pants, workout pants etc. must be worn with a top that extends to at least the tip of the students thumb when hands are held at their sides.

5. Jeans and pants with holes may not have holes that are seethrough that are higher than the student’s longest finger when placed to the side with shoulders down.

6. Pajamas are not allowed.

7. Hats, hoods, bandanas, or any other kind of head covering are to be taken off when on campus.

8. Apparel and accessories depicting and stating inappropriate content (including, but not limited to, drugs, alcohol, tobacco, vulgarities, sexual references or suggestive depictions and weapons) are not allowed.

When in doubt if an item is appropriate for school, ask an administrator or teacher. Students inappropriately dressed will be asked to change or call home for a change of clothes.
